Fall Arrest & Roof Anchors


Fall arrest systems are a method of protected required by the OSHA and the MOL, to the ensure safety of workers. In case an accident is to occur this system will suspend the worker for approximately 30 minutes, until emergency personnel arrive. In compliance to MOL. Roof anchors are required as a hazard system, when workers are on a roof or elevated area that is located within 2m of an unprotected edge or is exposed to the hazard of falling more than 3m. A roof anchor is used as a fall protection device, that is mainly used when cleaning windows or performing suspended building maintenance. Our anchors are designed to meet a static load and an ultimate force of 5,000 lbs, double of the required standard. Static Line Assembly


Also referred to as Horizontal Cable Lifeline System. This system is design to support two workers in a fall arrest application. Workers are to be refrained from reaching a point where potential fall hazards may occur and are protected in event of a fall. This system is ideal for rooftop maintenance, where a lot of movement is required.


What is a static line assembly? A static line assembly is a cable that is installed parallel to the fall hazard. This system allows the worker to be connected to the cable with a lanyard and harness, and allows the workers to travel in intervals. The installation for this system is to be reviewed and directed by one of our qualified engineers, to ensure this prestigious system is installed correctly.





Davit Arm System


The Davit Arm System is broken down into two separate components. The Davit Base, which is a fixed attachment that holds the Davit Arm. The Davit Arm is either a fixed or portable crane like device, that consists of an anchoring point.


Davit Arm Systems are used to raise, lower and suspend workers that are performing maintenance duties. Each assembly part is hot dipped galvanized for maximum durability. This system is used in addition to roof safety/ tie-back anchors and provides a suspension point. For a permanent Davit system it is designed to withstand all loads that are applied to it unless stated otherwise in the Ontario Building Code. For the system that contains a portable Davit Arm it is to be designed to withstand a maximum weight of 70kg that is to be applied.

  • How do you know you need a fall arrest system?  when a worker is exposed to any of the following hazards including but not limited to:
    -falling from a height of more than 3    metres (approx. 10 feet);
    -falling into operating machinery;
    -falling into water or another liquid;
    -falling into or onto a hazardous substance or object;
    -falling through an opening in a work surface.
  • What is a fall arrest system used for?A fall arrest system is used where a suspended scaffold, boatswain's chair or similar single-point suspension equipment is to be used for window cleaning or where sill work is done
  • How long will a worker be suspended?This system will suspend the worker safely for approximately 30 minutes until emergency personnel arrive.
  • What is a pull test? A pull test is a near-to-surface method that includes a pull being performed on the anchors, of a load half of the total force without deformation. This ensures optimal safety of the anchors.
  • When is a pull test needed? According  to MOL standards a pull test is required every 5 years after the date of installation.
  • Why is a pull test required?A pull test is required to ensure optimal safety of a worker, to make sure there are no faulty anchors.
  • What is the total force applied on the anchors?Anchors are to be designed to resist a total of force of 22.2 kN in any direction. A test is to be performed of a load of 11.1 kN without deformation.
  • What is a visual test?A visual test is a inspection done by a professional, that requires them to see if there are any damages anchors in sight.
  • When is a visual test needed?A visual test is required every year, whether the anchors have been used or not.
  • Can you substitute a roof anchor for another safety system?Anchors can be substituted by a continuous rail, that has been designed by a professional engineer. If the lines are attached to a separate trolly then you can attach the equipment tiebacks and lifelines to the rail or beam.
  • What happens after an installation?After installation of roof anchors a pull test is performed immediately. NRA will also provide the necessary documents such as certification of use and warranty, NRA laminated drawings and NRA laminated log book.
  • Requirements for building managers?A building manager is required to; keep the provided log book updated, follow up with yearly inspections, notify NRA of any changes, keep the laminated drawings posted at roof entrance at all times, and keep all documentation in a safe place.
  • If the MOL come to your site what will they look for?If the Minister of labour enters your site they expect to see, the laminated drawing posted and an updated logbook in the office.
